Is Physiotherapy Covered by Sask Health?
While some physiotherapy services are covered under Sask Health, others are not. This can be confusing, so let’s break this down.
Physiotherapy services that are provided through hospitals, community agencies, or long-term care facilities are typically covered through Sask Health. As such, these physiotherapy services have no cost to the patient.
Some examples of physiotherapy services in Saskatoon that are covered by Sask Health include the following:
Inpatient physiotherapy services offered to patients during their stay in the hospital.
Outpatient physiotherapy services offered through the hospital to patients. This includes physiotherapy for patients that have recently undergone certain surgical procedures such as a knee or hip replacement.
Rehab Day Services Multidisciplinary Team for patients over age 18 with amputation, stroke, spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions.
Community physiotherapy and home visits offered by Saskatoon’s Client Patient Access Service (CPAS). With the CPAS program patients can access physiotherapy at their home at no cost to them. You can learn more about CPAS and eligibility requirements for the program here: https://www.saskatoonhealthregion.ca/locations_services/Services/Client-Patient
Patients living in many long-term care facilities in Saskatoon and in Saskatchewan also have access to in-house physiotherapy services that are covered through Sask Health. These physiotherapy services are exclusive to those residing in those facilities.
In contrast to these five examples, the majority of physiotherapy services in Saskatchewan are offered by private physiotherapy clinics. Private physiotherapy services are not covered by Sask Health, but are covered by many employer-provided and personal health benefits plans such as Saskatchewan Blue Cross.
